What I Eat In A Day With @rocamoons

Today we are chatting with our girl Mona-Jane (aka @rocamoons) about what she eats in day. She’s also sharing one of her favorite smoothie recipes to keep her fueled. Enjoy!

How do you typically eat in day? What is your philosophy around eating?

How I eat is a rather tricky thing to put my finger on because I kind of just go with the flow for the most part and don’t plan too much. Plus, I love variety and usually eat what I feel like in the moment. I’d say I have a more holistic approach in regards to diet and nutrition. While my diet is far from perfect, I try to eat as whole and natural as possible. I believe in moderation and I don’t cut any specific food groups out. I’d probably say I’m more along the lines of a plant-based pescatarian for the most part. I’m not one to eat a lot of animal protein, but if I do, it’s usually seafood. I’m not a huge fan of red meat thats for sure.

I try to eat organic where I can, but it can also be expensive sometimes. I also try my best to get the nutrients I need from food as opposed to supplements or pills.  Mother nature knows best, right? I most definitely have a major sweet tooth and I am a  sucker for ice cream, chocolate & candy, and kinda have a reputation for it since i was a kid haha. ANYWAY good food is such a fun social thing for me! And since I don’t drink coffee or alcohol, eating is kinda that thing for me: what i do when I meet up with friends or family, so there are lots of fun memories with food involved!

Walk us through a typical day of meals…

Morning- 

Breakfast is usually pretty simple and quick, so a basic smoothie or protein shake, sometimes I’ll make it into a bowl topped with granola and fresh fruit. Sometimes it’s just a bunch of fruit or if I’m feeling like I need more “oomph” avocado and tomato on toast with balsamic vinegar. Sometimes I go oatmeal too. 

Lunch-

I feel like its not often i have a proper lunch in this phase of life because I’m more like a human vacuum all day, eating leftovers from the kids- haha! A lunch options I like are a big salad (with avocado, cucumber, pickled onions, hemp hearts & roasted sweet potato with a mustard balsamic dressing). I definitely love a hearty veggie sandwich too. Or a big smoothie bowl or simply reheat leftovers from the day before.

Dinner-

I don’t usually get fancy here. Salad and veggies is common. I love sweet potatoes! But if I’m in the mood for cooking: sweet potato tacos, veg coconut curry, and pasta are some favorites. Oh, and steamed broccoli!

Snack-

I’m a snacker through and through. love me some fresh fruit, banana  & peanut better on crackers with cinnamon, carrots/corn chips & hummus, and very often a bar on the go, usually a perfect bar or go macro. Another favorite is avocado ceviche. It’s kind of like an avocado salsa with avocado, cucumber, red onion, lotsa cilantro, fresh squeezed lemon, salt & pepper to taste, eaten with corn chips or in a lettuce cup. 

What’s a favorite smoothie of yours?

Tropical Smoothie

2 frozen bananas

frozen mango

frozen pineapple

cup of favorite nut milk/coconut water

 

Blend & mash in a high powered blender until smooth.

Make it into a bowl & top with your favorite things, granola, fresh fruit, nuts, coconut, chia seeds etc

keep in mind the more liquid the runnier it will be.
